Whats your plan for when disaster strikes?
Sometimes I feel like disaster will never happen to us.
Tornado… they ALWAYS go around Omaha, but we never get the worst of it.  Same with blizzards.  The worst snow I remember in Omaha was 12 inches in 2 days… and we survived just fine.
Why do I need to be THAT prepared?
My husband and I LOVE being prepared… but that doesn’t mean we are 100% perfect at it.  We haven’t updated our 72 Hr kits since our last baby, and our kids aren’t anywhere prepared to know what to do in case of an emergency.  Our evacuation plan… yea, we have one… but that doesn’t mean I remember it.

September 11, 2001.

A few months after this tragic event, my dad lost his job.  Eventually, the entire company he was working for went under.  My dad could not find a job for 11 months… and we eventually moved from Arizona to Omaha, Nebraska.  During that time, we lived off our food storage.

But I never realized we were living off our food storage

Because…

1.  My parents were rotating it, and using food I was ALREADY used to eating.

2.  We always had enough food…. so for a kid… I never thought anything was wrong.

3.  They never stressed about having food on the table  As a kid… I never knew anything was wrong.. because they always HAD food because they were PREPARED.

Food storage was what helped us in that time of the disaster, but my parents were also prepared with evacuation plans.  I remember what we were to do in case of a fire.  I also remember about once a year we would rotate out our 72 Hr kits… taking out the old food, and putting in new clothes.

Being prepared with food, water, 72 Hr kits (Bug Out Bags), First Aid, are all ways YOU can be prepared to help your family in time of Disaster.
