1. Walk through your house with a pen, paper and open mind.
Look in every room, every cabinet, every shelf, under every bed and piece of furniture. Do you have “hidden” space that you forgot about? Could you use some of that space better? Do you have things you can donate or sale? Do you have unused space where you can build your own shelves? Above the washer/dryer, in the office, under the stairs, in an unused corner are a few ideas of places to find space for your food storage.
2. Make a quick inventory of what you HAVE for food storage and WHAT YOU NEED.
Why? Because, knowing how much more food storage you have (food storage plans are fantastic for this!) helps you know how much more space you really need.
You may be storing too many buckets of wheat, and can get rid of that to make room for the other food you need.
3. Create a food storage plan.
As you have a food storage plan, you’ll realize more quickly what you have extras of, and what you need. For example: I was given about 6 5 gallon buckets of old wheat. I could use it, and knew I would eventually use it. But, moving across country, I redeveloped our food storage plan. I realized I didn’t need all 6 of those extra buckets, I only needed 3 to reach our food storage goal (6 months of storage). This meant I could get rid of 3 buckets which freed up a TON of space for more food storage I needed.

Where can you get those shelving units for rotating cans?
We bought ours from Costco, they are the very large “Shelf Reliance” ones. The only other place I know where to get them is Thrive Life (but wait until black Friday and you’ll find them for $300). Thrive Life does have smaller ones.
